I chose to observe the area behind the campus library. There are multiple sidewalks that meet up behind it and a few benches along these sidewalks. I sat on one of the benches. From the bench I could see the Ingles and Blanding towers to my left. Straight ahead I could see the top of the hospital and the helicopter taking off circling around and landing. To my right of course was the back of the library. I went at 9:30 pm so it was nice and cool outside. The fireflies were circling around in the open field like dancing miniature light bulbs. I tried to look up at the stars but because of all the light pollution produced by Lexington, there wasn’t much to see. I was however able to locate the international space station, I know this because it was the brightest and only thing moving at a constant pace in the sky. While laying on the bench like a bum staring at the stars only a few people walked by. One group of two people leaving the library with what looked like to be heavy book bags, a person on their bike going to the library, and a barefooted man with a back pack walking through the grass field behind the library where I was sitting. He wasn’t homeless but the combination of him doing that and me laying on the bench looking at the stars leads me to believe that it is becoming more socially acceptable to act like a bum in public. I could hear the sound of the helicopter taking off in combination with all the cars passing by. Nature wise I could only here the sound of nocturnal bugs buzzing and chirping. The light gust of wind had a slight crisp to it and smelled a little like pine. Probably because of the pine tree that was right behind me. The field I was at concaved into the ground creating a bowl filled with small trees and bushes, it looked like something out of a trippy movie. It was actually quite peaceful due to the fact that it was late and there wasn’t that many people around. Instead of the 10 minutes recommended to us I actually stayed an hour without realizing it.
